The Election Commission of India is a constitutional body of the republic constituted by the constitution of India. It is enacted by the Article 13A of the constitution & is comprised of 3 members including a chief election commissiner who have the power to declare elections, define rules for the process & conduct the affair as per the laws legislated in the Article & disqualify candidates applying for the nomination in an election on the basis of the code of conduct. It can bar candidates found violating the statutary rules from contesting elections for a certain period of time or for ever. The election commission of India is the governing body of the election event in India.

 





The election commission in office currently is officiating term since 2013 & the holding commissioners including the CEC are intimated as under elected to office by the combined panel of President of India, the PM, CJI & RS speaker. They are appointed for a 6 year term:




1.  CEC Mr. S.D. Chandrachud (IRS officer 1963 batch; JS of Planning Commission from 1975 to 2013)
2.  EC Mr. P.P. Ramavarti (IFS officer 1957 batch; US of Finance Commission from 1977 to 2011)
& 3.  Mr. K.K. Subhmenon (IEC officer 1967 batch; DS of Vigilance Commission since 1981)
